I've done all the work on my 80 so far but I know there will come a time when something comes up that I can't handle. Also my wife's 4 runner will need her timing belt changed soon and I know I don't feel comfortable taking on that task. So anybody got a guy they totally trust? Maybe someone who warranties their work?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey man!

For the 80, Bobby at The Cruiser Co. Only thing is, he's really busy. Not sure he warranties his work, per say, but I've never personally had an issue with anything he's done on my 80 or my parent's 80. Bryant @ Rock City might be a prospect too. Josh knows more about that though. For her 4Runner timing belt, I'd take it to Donnie's Foreign Car on Markham. They're fairly $$, but their work is impeccable. Check the dealer too--not sure if our club discount extends to labor @ Landers. If the Runner is a third Gen needing a timing belt, I know of an excellent (and extremely reasonable) source in addition to the above.

Thanks man! I got a buddy who uses Donnie's and forgot all about that place. I heard he was a little pricey but he would stand behind his work so thanks.

Unfortunately the wife's Runner is a 4th gen but thanks anyway!

I didn't think the 4th gen 4Runners had timing belts.

The V8 4th gens have a timing belt, the V6 have a chain. I had Caldwell Toyota in Conway do mine for around $700 iirc. The only other place I checked was Landers, it was around $1,000.

See, told you there was some stuff I couldn't do or apparently even know about. Here's my follow up question, my 80 also has a timing chain and from everything I've read on here I've never heard of anyone changing one. Are the 4th gen V6's as durable? Anyone have any idea? I guess I'll have to start hitting up some 4runner forums.

Well after a quick search it looks like the chain won't need to be replaced until around 250k or until it starts making noise. Since my wife's rig has around 110k on it right now it looks like I have some time. Kinda happy since it'll save me some money right now.

Appreciate the heads up!

I haven't really seen anyone replacing the chain on the v6.....but I assume most haven't hit that mileage yet. You may look on some Tacoma forums also since they (05+) share the same 4.0 v6 as the 4runner.

Purdy Automotive in Benton. While not a "Toyota" guy the owner and Darin Givens are great 4x4 and engine mechanics. Tell them AR Crawlers sent you.
