I want to install a receiver hitch on the front and rear of my landcruiser. I want to be able to winch from both ends. Any ideas would be appriciated.
Anyone know anything about BLACKPAW receiver hitch mounted tire carriers?

Hi All:

BTDT!

Did front and rear receiver hitches on an Isuzu Trooper back in the late 1990s to use a Ramsey "Quick-Mount" 5000 electric winch.

What I found is the receiver hitches hang low restricting approach and departure angles. When one get their rig stuck it is never a great situation to lug a heavy (75 to 125 pound) electric winch from the cargo area of the truck to the front hitch.
All in all an idea what sounds great on paper is a failure in the "real world" of off-road travel.

But, of course, YMMV! :D

Good luck!

Alan

I built myself a front bumper with 2 receivers. With the winch in the high receiver I don't lose any approach angle. Depends on how you set it up. My winch lives on the front, so the only time I'm gonna have to lug it around is if I need a tug from the rear- an option not easily available to someone with a permanently mounted front winch.

X2 on strategically mounted receivers. True, a receiver fabbed with hitches as primary concern could be a nightmare for approach and departure angles. But, given proper consideration and well placed connectors for power at both ends, would positively enhance the self recovery possibilities, IMHO.

Alan, got any pics that you can post of your Trooper's receiver setup? I had 2 different '79 4x4 LUV pickups. They were also made by Isuzu and I'm trying to imagine where you had the front receiver mounted.
