"New" rebuilt calipers leaking when first installed...

I installed fresh rebuilt calipers this evening, and much to my dismay, they are leaking all over the place. They are not leaking at the line, or the bleeder, but somewhere else. The only thing i can think of is the piston seals. There were no little warnings or anything that came with the calipers. They are loaded Morse units from Autozone. Did i forget to do something when i installed them? the pistons are engaging and stopping the wheel just fine, but then they leak fluid at a steady drip, about one very 10 seconds. Is this part of the break-in or something? if they are, in-fact, bad, what in the hell are the odds that the seals are bad on both calipers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where is the fluid coming from? Is it coming from inside the caliper - next to the rotor?

That is what it looks like. But from what i can see, the seals don't look wet. I am going to pull them off tomorrow and pump them off the rotor with no pads, see if i can find the leak.

oh man oh man oh man !!! another one bites the the dust! never ever buy parts for your (a) land cruiser from autozone or pepboys etc. etc. if you cant get oem then try nappa , there parts are buy far superior than what youl get at those other <junkyards>.....

im also speaking from experience brotha , i learned the hard way, a couple year's ago when i did my caliper swap, to the bigger 4runner 4x4 style calipers i walked into my neighborhood autozone and purchased a set of those Morse loaded calipers i was kind of nervous of their quality being it was going on a land cruiser a vehicle known for its over engineered overbuilt parts , but they did come with a great lifetime warranty so i decided to try them " BIG MISTAKE " those calipers leaked big time just as described so i took them back and they gave me another set and guess what they also leaked!!!!!!!!!!!! so i went back and and demanded my money back + my cores that way i could go to nappa like some on this bored recommended, those F@#KING JERK OFFS did not want to make good on there money back guarantee so it took a couple of days and a few calls to their cooperate office and finally a JACKASS dist. manager that tried to nego. my money back!!!!!!!! so i finally got my money back minus cores
but they did give me my money 4 them (cores) .. .. i went to nappa and got a set of there calipers and NEVER LOOKED BACK!!!!! these :censor: people (autozone) are playing with are lives someone can easily get into a fatal accident with those faulty calipers thay pawn off to the general public , i thought my case was
isolated incodent BUT APPARENTLY NOT !!!! i only hope they can improve the quality from they're vender's before its to late !!!!!!!!!

SO TO ALL YOU NOOBS OUT THERE , WITH LANCRUISERS LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE IF YOU NEED REPLACEMNT PARTS FOR YOUR RIG GO TO THE DEALER AND GET O. E. M. OR NAPPA ! do not put yourself in a situation like the one above, believe me its not worth the extra 50 bucks or so you think you are saving , you will lose a lot more in terms of reliability and safety. not to mention the inconvenience of replacing parts over and over again... " do it wright the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

TO QOUTE FROM SOMEONE FROM THIS FORUM "what good is a lifetime warranty when your rig breaks on the trail or the middle of no where? "

SO AUTOZONE IMOP IS :ban: AND GOOD LUCK WUTH YOUR CALIPERS MY FRIEND! :bounce: :flipoff2: :bounce2:

Based on the post above from freebornred, I think the odds are quite high!

BTW - I've had similar poor experiences with replacement parts purchased at Shucks and similar. Napa or OEM never do me wrong. (Plus, you get a 15% AAA discount from NAPA...)

Thank you both for the advice

I pulled them off, pulled the pads out and pushed the pedal. Sure enough, only ONE piston moved and it started leaking FROM THE SEAM between the two halves.

Lesson learned. I've had very good luck with Autozone parts in the past, but never again. I'll go order them from NAPA tomorrow.

At least my FJ80 MC went on without a hitch. Brakes feel a lot better with just the MC, I can't wait to feel the larger brakes.

I'll play off man out. I've bought several sets of calipers (each for different Cruisers and other vehicles in the fleet) from Autozone/Advance/Pep Boys and not had issues. But then I don't buy the loaded calipers. I buy the rebuilt calipers and add Toyota pads or reuse the old ones if they have life left...

YRMV of course. :D
