Hello all, I just tackled a large project on my 1989 FJ62.
I replaced the throttle cable (aka kickdown cable)
And rebuilt the valve body in the auto transmission with new gaskets from Toyota.
But today, when I went to finish the project, I filled it up with 2 gallons of Amsoil synthetic ATF, did a flush of the remaining fluid, then filled it up with 2 more gallons of ATF resulting in 4 new gallons of ATF
Here is the problem...
When i got to shift the transmission into gear, I have no engagement! On any gear... R,D,3,2, or 1.
I used the Toyota FSM for the A440F so im fairly certain i assembled it correctly.
The fluid is reading at a correct level.
My concern is that while rebuilding the valve body, a foreign object (IE: old gasket material) got stuck in one of the valve passages and is not allowing the fluid to circulate properly.
I do not want to have to drop the pan again and drain the $200 of new fluid that I just added.
Here are the toyota parts that I used and replaced...
Parts:
35520-60050 Cable assembly, throttle 79.82
35168-36010 Gasket, Automatic transmission oil pan 20.94
35339-60020 Gasket, Oil strainer 11.99
12157-10010 Drain plug Crush washer 2.79
35433-36010 Gasket, Valve body # 1 14.15
35434-36010 Gasket, Valve body # 2 14.15
35435-36011 Gasket, Valve body plate #3 12.03
35436-36011 Gasket, Valve body plate #4 12.03
35223-36010 Gasket, Lock up relay valve body 6.49
Here are some pictures so you can all see what this all looks like...
Thanks for the help, I was so excited to get this finished, now I'm super bummed that its not working
