I have a 1hdt that has done 6000k since full rebuild. It has been blowing blue smoke on start up and at idle since first got it back from Reconditioners.

Although it is not using much oil ( 200-300mls per 5000km) it is blowing smoke out oil filler and rocket cover bypass if you open them but doesn't appear to have a lot of blowby.

I decided to put a catch can on to see how much oil is coming out and have caught 100ml after 1300km.

I am suspicious as to the possibility that the engine Reconditioner did not put the Oil Restrictor in the block before putting the head back on.

Is there any way to tell if this is missing without taking the head back off???.

Have you spoken to the engine rebuilder yet?

Yes I have and he still wants me to wait till I put more Kilometers on it, 8000 to 10000 to see if it settles down. In some ways I can understand his opinion but I am sure it isn't right and doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Nothing wrong with doing your own research. I would probably get someone or yourself to do a compression test, just to eliminate it.

How has it been treated since rebuild?
If it's been driven like grandma's at the wheel you may not have bedded in rings yet.
After 6000km you should be able to drive it like you stole it.
Some good long runs with a decent load and decent amount of right boot and some hills may help it.

I would be hooking on to a heavy trailer and try and bed those rings as above give it heaps especially on the hills. It may help to drop the oil and run some light weight break in oil who knows it may help with your low K's.
Good Luck

What happened at the end? It stopped smoking?
Mine has 200kms and smokes a little bit blue on idle but I mean you need a blue light to check its smoking, is very little smoke.
No smoke through the oil cap and is not burning any oil.

Annoying but good in the end. How much do they charge for a rebuild on its own?

I paid about $5000 for a 1HZ long motor with a new head 10 years ago and delivered to my house. They did a good job too.
