Engine block cleaning.
1 Clean visible surfaces using your favorite method. DO NOT USE POWER/AIR TOOLS ON PRECISION/GASKET SURFACES! I use soap, water, old toothbrushes, and lint free rags.
2 Pull the freeze plugs and clean out the coolant galley.
3 Remove gunk from the oil feed passages. Particulate trashes rotating assemblies!
4 Dry the engine block ASAP. Use a suitable surface protectant(s) to prevent rust. Rust destroys precision surfaces.
5 Place your engine block in a clean plastic bag.
I clean engine blocks after they come back from the machine shop, even if they already cleaned it.
