My 100 had an after market VHS system that I'm removing. I ordered a new console "end" with cup holders and switch (pricey!!) from Dan and now am trying to figure out how it's supposed to work. The switch plate that mounts above the cup holder has a fan speed selector and a temperature selector knob as per page 130 of my owner's manual. I've traced the rear heater hoses and can't find where the temperature selector knob is supposed to connect- there doesn't seem to be a valve for it to connect to cut off the hot water. In other words it's always "on" and naturally gets very hot while driving any distance. I want to install a water valve to interrupt the water flow to the heater. Any ideas or am I missing something here? What should it have? And where? Thanks in advance.

Both front and rear heater elements are always on. Airflow doors isolate them when no cabin heat is called for.

Thanks AP, that makes sense but my '99 switch (new from CDan) has a rotary temp switch which has what looks like a cable hookup to it (similar to the brake cable on a bicycle) and I'm wondering how that's supposed to connect and what to?? I would think it's supposed to connect to a valve somewhere. Also, I think I see the door to the heater, but how is it actuated? It looks wire controlled. It does not help that I don't have a wiring diagram  or FSM.

Not sure about the bowden cable you describe, but front and rear heater air doors are controlled by a servo motor on the heater unit. There's a link to the 2004 FSM in the FAQ thread. There are some differences between that and the 99 model, but it should be good for what you are chasing.
