There are a pair of rear wheel cylindders (Lucas) to fit a 1989 LAnd Cruiser - going cheap on eBay UK and I'm wondering whether to buy them..

First of all, what are rear wheel cylinders? How often do they need replacing? What would they normally cost? Having recently bought a pair of front rotors from the seller for $40 I'm tempted to buy them in advance of needing them.

Heres' a pic - hope fully someone can tell me all about them...

Wheel cylinders move your rear brake shoes into contact with the drum. I discovered yesterday that mine are shot. A set of them for both rear wheels runs in the $30-40 range.

They are a common wear item.

Cool. JT Outfitters always has these on eBay. I am tempted to buy some as well.

My brake pedal is really firm/hard and braking could definitely be better even though front calipers and rotors are in good shape and it's been recently machine bled. So I'm wondering if the wheel cylinders may be my problem. I've never really worked on drum brakes before, though.

Mine (wheel cylinders) are comming in friday. I'll let ya'll know how the install goes. Honestly I didn't know they weren't working until I took my drums apart, I thought braking power was pretty decent before. So... I'll see what happens. The problem I was originally trying to fix was my e-brake. Go figure, try to fix one problem find another.
