You could eliminate the rear key lock and put the camera there, and run the co-axial cable through the headliner or rockers (whichever you have easier access to).

What about on the bottom of the rear wing (if you have one :) ).

i have a factory installed night vision/back-up camera.

it's the two outboard mirrors and the windshield-mounted rear view. i use them in conjunction with the two incredibly well-designed optical devices embedded in my skull. my central prcessor (a.k.a. brain) processes the images and prompts my muscular system accordingly.

my night vision systems consists of two head lights and back-up lights.

I wait to hear a scream, screech or the crushing of metal - then I usually brake......unless its a Jeep.

The 100 series back up camera on my Mom's is mounted facing downward underneath the top hatch. Its actually relatively close in location to the handle on the rear hatch. Most aftermarket cameras could connect to the aux video input on the back of an indash lcd unit. You problem is going to be not an issue of it working but an issue of you having to select the source it is on to view it (meaning unless you put a switch in the power line for the camera it would be on constantly even when it was not being viewed on the monitor), this is opposed to on a new 100 series where the camera automatically comes on and the source unit in the dash automatically switches to the camera when and only when the vehicle is in reverse.

Night vision like on newer cars with a HUD would be nearly impossible to incorporate into a vehicle. However anything is possible with enough money...

Endless, i would mount it right beside the rear window washer. Just be sure to seal it up with silicon. I think it would take some work but it would look like a real clean install. Hey, thinking about it, someone posted a pic of a HUGE cruiser in japan with a backup camera, i'll see if i can find it.

Damn WOB, you beat me to it. I had just found it and saved it. Frick......get out of our lives and stop eating all our steak!

EnDLeSS might be on to something this time.

Consider 4 cameras; one mounted at each corner with a joystick controller to aim, zoom and focus. Use would be like an extra set of eyes to help crawl over rocks when you don't have (or don't trust) a spotter. Wire those babies to a pair of LCD panels switchable between front and rear or left and right. Maybe 4 LCD panels for that panoramic view.

Maybe this is a mod to consider... or maybe I should keep saving for that winch.

I tried talking my boss into letting the camera guys (we make thermal imaging cameras) install a camera into my truck with remote screen on sun visor....field testing to simulate truck mount vibrations. He didn't go for it. My avitar is a thermal pic of my 60 engine.

B,

I've seen something like that on a new Toyota van (Alphard:sp) in Japan. It must have camera(s) mounted so you can see what's in front/behind front/rear bumpers when you are backing up, etc... can't remember exactly, but was pretty cool nontheless.
