I'm going to prep the rear of my 89 FJ62 this weekend for the used springs I'm getting from giniricLC. I've removed springs on my 40 but haven't touched the 62's yet. The 62 has a sway bar i believe. will i need to remove this as well or can i remove the spring packs without touching that part of the suspension? any pictures or tips on how do do this would be awesome, since i dont have a FSM for this rig. TIA MUD doctors.

Removal

Acquire Oxy/Acetylene Torch rig, Impact Wrench/Rachet, Sockets - I think 17 or 18 MM for the shackles, 10 MM for the spring pin bolts and for the absorber bolts on the spring plate....

commence to burn out old bushings, remove springs etc.

don't forget to have a jack underneath your pumpkin when you finally drop your springs!

I'd think you could remove the springs without messing with the sway bar because the bar is not attached to the springs in any way. BTW, it's possible to remove the spring packs and bushings without a torch or impact tools. Good luck!

Don't stress on removing the sway bar. That's maybe 5 minutes of work and it will make the rest of it a little easier. You need to be able to horse the rear axle around a bit and the sway bar will be in the way.

Most important tool--BIG jack stands under the frame. be careful and don't drop the truck on your head.

well I've got everything but a torch, I should be able to get it done thanks guys. Do you reccomend doing one spring pack at a time or could i doo the whole rear at once?

schedule

It all depends on your schedule, and if the rust/rubber bushing gods are smiling upon you.

If you opt to do one side at a time it really helps to have the yet to be removed second side's u-bolts loose when you go to install the first side's new u-bolts & nuts.

x2 on what ntsqd says, i recently replaced one rear spring and it would have been easier and quicker doing both at once.

I can't get the dirty SOB spring perch out so I have one broken leaf still on the the spring hanger pin. What do I need to heat with a torch to melt the bushings?
