Nice. I dig the handles, reminds me of road case hardware.

Looks very handy and well made. Also, it should work well with the tie downs that you added on the sided to securely pack some odds-n-ends along the sides of the storeage unit.

Congrats on the nice addition to your 60.

Thanks guys...

The handles are from Reliable Hardware. Powdercoated. Spring loaded. And a nice cushy handle. I'm VERY happy with them. RH had a minimum $25 order, so I "had" to buy enough handles to do both ends of the drawers.

The back of the unit is identical to the front (open) to allow the drawers to slide forwards or backwards. I thought if there were ever a time that I could not open the tailgate and needed to access what's inside, I will be able to drop the rear seat and slide them out.

I tried to keep a low budget with the build, so no sliders or locking mechanisms. I had 3 gals of polyurethane left over from the house. All of it was used. Could use some more, but after 2weeks I was tired of it. And I just didn't want to buy anymore. Hopefully it'll last a while. A rub down with a bar of soap on the runners makes for a nice smooth slide.

Thanks guys...

If the poly was left over from a house project, is the poly rated with UV protection? What I am wondering, could the truck sit out enough for the finish to be damaged by light coming through the windows.

Searching for ideas to steal for the 62. Smart idea! Thanks for posting.

The Mar/April 2008 issue of Toyota Trails has write up on a set-up with a flat deck so you can sleep above the storage. I am going to us a modified version, steel frame instead of wood and water proof surplus aluminum boxes as some of the river crossing in AK may get water into the truck. you could also modify it to use slide out drawers.
