well my four year old has outgrown the five point harness in her child seat and the lap belt wasn't enough for me so i decided i was going to macgiver myself some .

i went to the local junk yard and started going thru all of the vehicles , i found that the 90's model pathfinders had belts close to what looked about right , lucky for me they look like the toyota ones ( i am guessing they came out of the same factory in japan .

i pulled two belt assemblies retractors and all hardware including matching lap portions , i paid $80 . you may get them for less but the guy knew i wanted them  .

make sure to grab all the bolts and washers they bolt directly into the fj62 :D

the first thing i did was remove the rear panel and seat belt from my 62, next i test fit the retractor to see how much trimming would be needed.

i used a big fat felt pen and traced the outline of the retractor two minutes with my jig saw and the retractor fits snug as a bug it is not flush but i have a solution for that .

I test fit it again and decided that one of the trim panel holes would be perfect for the bottom hole , i enlarged it with a 3/8 bit ,then test fit it again and scribed the top hole and drilled it out .

here you can fit a 14 mm deep socket on the back of the bolt to tightenit up

getting the top bolt on was a little trickier , i tightend it on with the retractor bent up a bit then bent the tab down and tightened the bottom bolt the bottom bolt is twice the diameter of the top one on the pathfinder it was a #12 sheet metal screw i used a 5/16 bolt and huge fender washers .

here is the tightening of the bottom retractor bolt i used washers as spacers to keep the housing of the retractor from being pushed to far into the pocket as i did not trim the inside hole deep enough , i only had a jig saw but with a sawsall or sabre saw you could trim deeper :D .

i like the way it fits though !

next i tightened the top anchor as i was lucky enough to allready have the threaded insert ( the nissan bolt is a direct fit ):)

i bolted in the bottom anchor section of the main lap belt using the spacers from the nissan . make sure the anchor is facing the right way it is counter intuitive , you will see what i mean when you have it in your hands .

the rear pannel needed a little trim :

i suspect if you cut the pocket deeper you woudnt need to do this but i plan to replace my pannels any ways .

all done !

That looks good. I did the same but with FJ62 belts :)

One thing I did different was I welded a large plate 1/4 thick around the whole thing so that my bolts were spreading out the force. I was concerned the body metal alone was not enough to hold it. Many because look at the size of bolts required. They are huge.. SO they must need some strong anchors.

Did you use a large washer under the head? It might help keep them from pulling thru.

yes a huge fender washer , my four year old is only fourty pounds now , so i feel it is safe later on i will add a piece of flat stock and a longer bolt !

there was a lack of fj62's in the junk yard

there were s*** loads of 4runners and pathfinders though , i looked at the fourrunner but it did not look as easy to transfer .

what type of "90's" pathfinder? They changed styles in the mid 90's.

Early 90's:

Late 90's:

I'd love to use FJ62 rear belts for this, but there are always more Non-Land Cruisers than Land Cruisers in the junk yard!

i got them from the early 90's model .
