well my four year old has outgrown the five point harness in her child seat and the lap belt wasn't enough for me so i decided i was going to macgiver myself some .
i went to the local junk yard and started going thru all of the vehicles , i found that the 90's model pathfinders had belts close to what looked about right , lucky for me they look like the toyota ones ( i am guessing they came out of the same factory in japan .
i pulled two belt assemblies retractors and all hardware including matching lap portions , i paid $80 . you may get them for less but the guy knew i wanted them
.
make sure to grab all the bolts and washers they bolt directly into the fj62
the first thing i did was remove the rear panel and seat belt from my 62, next i test fit the retractor to see how much trimming would be needed.
i used a big fat felt pen and traced the outline of the retractor two minutes with my jig saw and the retractor fits snug as a bug it is not flush but i have a solution for that .
I test fit it again and decided that one of the trim panel holes would be perfect for the bottom hole , i enlarged it with a 3/8 bit ,then test fit it again and scribed the top hole and drilled it out .
here you can fit a 14 mm deep socket on the back of the bolt to tightenit up
getting the top bolt on was a little trickier , i tightend it on with the retractor bent up a bit then bent the tab down and tightened the bottom bolt the bottom bolt is twice the diameter of the top one on the pathfinder it was a #12 sheet metal screw i used a 5/16 bolt and huge fender washers .
here is the tightening of the bottom retractor bolt i used washers as spacers to keep the housing of the retractor from being pushed to far into the pocket as i did not trim the inside hole deep enough , i only had a jig saw but with a sawsall or sabre saw you could trim deeper
.
i like the way it fits though !
next i tightened the top anchor as i was lucky enough to allready have the threaded insert ( the nissan bolt is a direct fit )
i bolted in the bottom anchor section of the main lap belt using the spacers from the nissan . make sure the anchor is facing the right way it is counter intuitive , you will see what i mean when you have it in your hands .
the rear pannel needed a little trim :
i suspect if you cut the pocket deeper you woudnt need to do this but i plan to replace my pannels any ways .
all done !
