Rear shock washers toast...fender washers?

So in the process of replacing my rear shocks and adding some OME 865 springs to the rear, it is obvious that the old washers for the bushing on the upper shock mount cannot be re-used. These suckers are pretty expensive after a brief search of online Toyota parts houses. Has anyone use a stainless fender washer as a cheaper alternative? If you did, did you double up the bottom washer for added thickness and strength?

I just did this on the front shocks. You will still want the inner oem washers with the lip that centers the shock to the body mount (unless rear shocks don't have this type). If the bushings are aftermarket then you won't need the inner washers with the lip since the bushings should have a lip on them. The outer washers can be replaced with fender washers. I used zinc washers.

The fender washers I have seen would not be beefy enough, are they the same thickness as the factory ones?
Ones for my Icons are at least twice as thick as a fender washer. Have gone through one set of upper bushings on the rear so know there is a lot of stress.

This is what I decided to go with. Doubling up on the bottom closest to the shock body.

Update for safety...

I decided to refurbish the existing washers. When I went to install with washer pictured above the squish on the bushing was way to much to feel reasonably safe. I wire wheeled the existing washers and will let them bathe in naval jelly for a few hours and use them.
