Rear locker OK

Took my FJC to the dealership in Carson City to get that rear locker fixed. Looks like it was defective switch that kept it from locking on the El Dorado Run. I'm going to have to pay the dealer because I'm about 20,000 miles past the standard warranty, and it wasn't a powertrain warranted part, like say if it had been the locker motor.

I do have the extended warranty, but after talking with the service guy, we agreed it'd be best to save the extended warranty for when something really expensive breaks. If the extended warranty expires and I never have anything fixed on warranty, I can get a good portion of that money back. And if that happens, I can shop for a lift kit!

The part was $76, and the labor drove the total to $234 (an hour to figure out the problem, then the install time).

One of these days, I'll learn how to do this stuff myself. I just consider the $200 a month I'm saving on gasoline paid the toll on this repair.

Ouch you know you could have called me and just bought the parts and The Dan & John road show could have installed them for almost nothing just gotta ask bud i can hook ya up

Appreciate the offer. This just came down to one of those time-and-money situations. I'm sure I'll take you guys up on that one of these days. Thanks again.
 
The Field Service Manuals are expensive at first blush, but cheap compared to one or two trips to the dealership.
IMHO the Toyota manuals are very well written. If you can follow instructions well enough put together a model car you can do almost anything with them in hand.

If you start buying tools a few at a time you can be pretty well equipped in a short period.
