i just picked up a 2001 taco 2dbl cab 4x4 trd off road. i tried the rear locker today & doesn't seem to be working. the indicator light on the dash is blinking but it doesn't remain on. any help is appreciated

Did you put it in 4LO?

In the factory configuration, you have to keep your speed under 5 mph for it to lock and stay locked.

Need more info.

With the truck in 4lo, if the light is blinking then go back and forth until it engages. 20 ft up and back usually will do it.

If it does not, try 30 ft.

If it still does not, then you have an issue with the engagement of the locker.

Many many owners never use the diff lock. Same with Land Cruisers.

So, it may just need working it/time for it to engage.

I had this issue when I bought my 1st 98 cruiser. The locker had never been used ( :

yeah, it came with a owners manual & followed as per instructionah, i have it at 4lo i move the truck back & forth I have move more than 20 ft or so. The previous owner said he never used it. Is there any thing that I could do or I will just continue to try until it engage.

I found that turning slightly allow the locker to engage a bit quicker.

Yeah, moving straight forward and back sometimes won't do it. You have to get the axle shafts to move around, try driving in a circle slowly. When I engage mine in the snow, I find if I just nail the gas quickly enough to get one tire to break free, it will pop into engaged. I can actually hear it.

i'll try that driving around slowly & hopefully it will do it. Thanks

If you are going to drive in a circle, I would do it in the grass and not on the pavement ( :

At least you will allow for some slip in the front drive train.

Do it on dirt, not grass. Unless you don't like your lawn!

I've heard of people banging slightly on the actuator with a rubber mallet.

My '02 does that sometimes. I'll put the xfer case in neutral, then put the tranny in neutral, push the rear locker button, put the xfer in 4LO, then put the tranny in drive.
