I was looking at Fjs today, and am happy about almost everything but the hideous tail lights, especially considering the design aesthetics of the original FJ. It looks like the Fj is thinking 'huuurrr durrr', it might as well be the short bus. Are there any aftermarkets that sit flush? I've looked on google but haven't come up with any that don't bug out (just begging to get cracked on the trails).

Nothing aftermarket I know of. Yes, it's not the highlight of the FJC yet not the big "sore thumb" so many predicted. It is what it is and if that pushes you away from the FJC, so be it. I've wheeled mine well over the past 4 years, hasn't been an issue, yet...

The first thing that I broke wheeling mine! ;p I agree they're fugly, but they're safe (good visibility).
The tail lights do stick out - but deep not any wider than the rest of the truck.
I could see it being an issue in an extremely tight space that was off camber...but think you'd hit other things first - hasn't been an issue for me so far.
There are some LED ones that sit in a bit - but they aren't my fav.

LOL, that exact truck was just in my shop three days ago for a lift install. Would have mentioned the lights myself but the lights are not yet in production from RockTek, those are one of only two trial sets he (Justin) has made for the FJC. The brake light portion of these lights is very small, just a little crescent of 8-10 LED's beneath the little reflector. Not very visible/safe IMO but I'm old and conservative now.
