After some advise from a fellow forum member, which I can not find that thread, and decided to start a seperate topic. I purchased from JC Whitney the light guards. they look great but having a little problem with the front bracket. The enclosed instructions were much to be desired, especially the driver side. The problem is finding and getting to the bolt that holds the front of the light. Any thoughts and experienece would be appriciated. Lets just say I do not have Japanese hands...

Yes this was quite a pain, i had to remove the jack and reach up through that access to get to the bolt, then on the other side we opened that side access and removed the bottom tray which was pretty easy also. If you dont want to do this, one of my buddies took all the plastic panels off which turned it into an all day project but when they were off it was easy to access all the bolts...hopefully this helps.

'light guards' - are these intended to protect the front/rear lights?

IMO, price out the cost of the lens versus the sheet metal damage you will incur if those guards get pushed into the body and make a dent.....

trust me, lenses are cheap...

I've got 70k on an FJC in 13 months, with LOTS of wheelin, and have yet to even crack a lens...

Yeh but your kewl!

Gotta agree with Woody on this one. The lenses look bulbous, but, the $ for the guards could well be spent on better things, like beer......

Those lens guards are silly looking.
Really, what can a little bit of bent wire protect?
If you back into a tree you get a smashed lens and buggered sheetmetal.

If you are talking about the bolt that holds the tail light housing in place, it isn't a blot at all. It is like a little ball and socket. Once you undo the two bolts holding the rear, you just pull out and slightly back and the light will pop off. You will think you are going to break it, but it is fine. Just line it up and push to pop it back in and then tighten the rear bolts. Done.

Tail light guards are mainly an aesthetic mod. That said, I love how my Manik guards look!

False alarm...not that big a deal...starting with the read panel across the back, removed three screws and unpopped the facia in the back...there were access holes where you can reach the bolts holding the lights...the front bracket was just kind of difficult to get positioned.
