I find it to be a dirt and salt catcher par excellence. I suspect it has prongs that pierce the metal. Has anyone removed it?

4 or 5 prongs that go through the sheet metal IIRC. I saw it on some cruisers getting the factory spare wheel installed and had the badges removed and relocated

I was hopeful but I acknowledge that the intrinsic emblem design is consistent with prongs unfortunately. Thanks just the same.

Are you concerned about rust or??
Hello Brian. If I remove it, then I will be conscientious about sealing the holes. Mostly the emblem gathers a 1/4 inch of dirt or gravel dust (and caked salt in the winter). Running it through even a decent wash does little to clean the grime out of the hollowed out parts of the emblem. I like things clean and simple. The emblem bugs me. I know, that is a self induced problem. I imagine the prongs leak a touch. I think the body panels are double side galvanized though.
