I am finishing up my rear drawer project and am having some decision making problems. I am not quite sure as what to put on the face of the drawer (the exposed plywood in the picture). I started out doing the carpet but was not 100% happy with the way it turned out. Due to the fitment on the drawers I cannot wrap the carpet around the ends of the plywood. So, when I just trim the carpet on the edge of the plywood, I get all of the strings and the carpet threads like to pull out. My next thought was to do aluminum or some sort of diamond plate but was not super keen on the whole flashy part. My next stop was at ABS plastic in a black or tan variety. I have access to a water jet so cutting contours and tight corners is not problem.

Any suggestions?

Just a couple of ideas. Observe the photo and how the drawers face overlaps the sides. Also, consider leaving a 3/4" to 1" gap at top of drawer for pinch protection and then you'll be able to wrap the carpet from the top surface over the front. I have not used those handles/locks but they don't seem especially comfortable if trying to pull a 100+lb load while parked on a decline. That gap I talked about would allow the use of two hands.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Line X is not in the budget and I do not believe that it would be practical for this application (just the face with the rest being carpet).

I am considering something black because it will complement the latches.

This is my first set of drawers and first attempt at cabinetry in general so I have learned a lot and really appreciate the constructive criticism.

keep the suggestions coming!

you can get some "line-x" type stuff in aerosol cans too. I know that 3M makes some, not sure of exact name. My friend did an entire trophy truck tube chassis with it, looked good.

So I finally finished up the rear drawers in my truck. I went with black ABS cover and an aluminum trim piece on the top.
