Hi,

In order to carry a second spare tire I had a tire carrier fitted to the rear door of my BJ75. Only a couple of months later I noticed that the metal of the door skin was starting to split. It is not that clear on this picture but there is a split above the bolt.

I had a look inside the door and found that the only strengthening added were two thin strips of metal. Again they are not that clear on this picture.

Any comments?

David.

Factory setup as a frame inside the door to hold a tyre

x2 Thats a lot of weight to be hanging off those strips Take it back and tell them their shoddy work damaged your door.

it does not look like a strong support, I had my rear door hinges reinforced and i think they used 1/4 inch steel on the inside.

See if you can source another 70 series rear door that has the interior frame for the rear tire. Or go bumper with a swing out:meh:

Even with the doors specifically built to carry a tire, you still get a little warping over the years.

between you, me, and the NSA...
