Been battling a leak in the jack area of my LX470 for years. Finally in the last storm I tracked down the location and thought this might help. Not sure if this is stock design or someone had been in this area prior and didn't seal correctly.
Turns out that there was a constant drip from the molding clips that hold down the black trim under the rear vent window. I popped it up, cleaned and sealed with some fipg that I had laying around. Then wedged some rags between the window and trim and let dry overnight. Seems to be solid and leak free now and will monitor. Not sure of the trick to removing the trim piece correctly and battled it for a bit and ended up braking a clip of course on reinstall.
Seems like it should have been sealed from the factory but mine sure wasn't.
Hopefully this helps someone.

Hi I have just read your post
I see you didn’t get any replies which seems a pity as I’m sure you’re not the only one with water getting into the cargo area
I’ve just put up a post as I’ve got a damp carpet and can’t see how water is getting into the rear.
Did you remove any of the interior panels first? If so how do you get them to off if you know what I mean ..?.
I thought at first I must have a hole in my boot floor ….cargo area as you’d say… but the water collected in the small well where the seats are secured , the water is pure as if it’s from rain water or when frequently wash my WIFES truck as you’d say
Any ideas that might help me
The water seems to be worst on the opposite side to where the jack etc is secured
I’m making it my mission this winter to sort it out once and for all as I’m fed up with damp carpet and. Steamed up windows
Cheers mate
Kieron in the UK Peak District give it a google as its very pretty

Hi, yes, I had water dripping into the back area and collecting, also had water across the back and where the rear seats clip in as well as carpet across the rear hatch. I just popped off, the side panels as they're just held on with clips. I saw water dripping onto the speaker and Jack area behind the panel. That's what led me down this path. I had already removed the roof rack and sealed up the bolt holes up top prior, but was still getting water into the cabin. This definitely seems to have helped, and a monitoring during the next rain.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll unclip the side panels on mine today . Did you need a tool to get them off or did you just pull them. I watched a YouTube tube clip with a guy in the Ststes with a similar problem . He replaced his top tailgate and rear surround seal of the tail gate as it was getting in where an electric cable goes under the seal on the top opening if that makes sense
Landcruiser DIY on YouTube worth a look as he has about 20 videos of different jobs on a 100 series
Have you found any good sites that explain how to do different jobs and fixes ?
Cheers kieron

Hi
After further inspection I also have water trickling from the speaker in the cargo area. My roof rails are all original so I’m thinking it maybe getting from either the window seal or the strip that runs horizontally below the seal. Further investigation required
Did you find it easy to remove the horizontal strip ?
Did you replace the window seal also?

Mine was leaking onto the top of the speaker as well. The trim below the pop out rear window wasn't fun. I feel like there is probably another way than how I did it. I unscrewed the screw that mounts through the glass and carefully prying up the trip got it up. It got tough where the window hinged at the pillar behind the rear door. In hindsight I might have just popped up the trim and cleaned and tried to seal without completely removing since I broke one clip pin at the very front. I just needed to get the water to stop coming in so not to worried about it. U can see the pins from the molding if you have the inner panel off with a flashlight 🔦. If they are the cause of the leaking you will see it. Just run a hose on the window and watch for the drips.

Hi thanks for that I’ll remove the trim above the speaker first for a look see as you described. Does that piece of trim just pull off easily ?

Just to be sure you never actually renewed the horizontal strip just lifted it so you could get some sealant around the clips? . How were you sure that the window seal was OK?
If I was to replace the horizontal strip would i need to remove the seal to do so
Were the towels used to put press on the horizontal strip jammed between the closed window , window seal and horizontal strip?
Cheers mate
