Changed the pads on the rear brakes of a friend of mine's ('94 FZ80) last night. Is it common or typical to wear the inner pads quicker? he had next to zero pad material left on the inner and ~1-2 mm left on the outers.....Consistant for both rear wheels....How long would you think the new pads would take to "bed" or wear in for good performance?

That's not uncommon. Ideally the pads should wear at exactly the same rate. In reality they almost never do.

Break in is different between brands and even pad to pad because of material and batch. A good procedure is to accelerate to 60MPH or so and slow the vehicle down to 30MPH 6 or 7 times. This beds the pads to the rotor and provides a tolerable amount of heat to the surfaces for proper insurance against heavy glazing.

Rodger that, thanks for confirming my suspicions!

kind regards, Rob M

There is a piston only on one side hence the wear on the inner pad where it gets the bulk of force when brakes are applied. Front brakes have a quad setup both will wear evenly provided everything is operating normally.
