Oh, gotcha, Ryan. That's why I wanted to see it done. Come to think of it, when John's axle were out at CMCC, I don't remember seeing the bearings on the axles. If a special puller is needed to pull them out, I guess new ones can just be tapped in?

Sounds like my silver slapper would pull them out?

Doug, Open up one of the bearing boxes, tear open the plastic bag and lets see what the bearing looks like. Also, open up the seal box to verify you have two seals in there... You will need one per side.

Here are the bearings and seals from cruiseroutfitters.

Ooops...forgot the picture

Ryan is correct. The rear axle bearings stay in the axle tube and can be a pian to get out. I did the ones on my old 40 several years ago, and the bearing on the driver side broke apart while trying to pull it out while the one on the pass. side came out with out much trouble. I agee that if you are going to be tearing apart the rear axle and you still have old bearings and seals, go ahead and replace the old stuff. It's better than dealing with a bad bearing and/or seal on the trail.

Thanks for the clarification Dale and Ryan. Yes, I was mistakenly thinking that the rear bearings were like the mini truck. And sure, if you don't know the history of the rear bearings, I agree, replacement is best.

Dan,

Is your "Silver Slapper" some sort of male pleasuring device?

Now, now, Bob. Tsk Tsk. I know you just couldn't help yourself.

Thanks, Bob. Now I'm won't be able to sleep tonight.

John, I'll get those measurements tonight...although they won't be perfect as all I have is a measuring tape.

What is the ID and OD of that axle collar part? The piece in the center of the bearing.

Inner diameter is 39mm, outer diameter is 45mm (front surface is 45mm, but it is beveled out to about 47mm)
