Hi

I have a 2000 Land Cruiser, and my rear AC is having a problem. The rear blower fan seems to be completely dead. The lights on the controls are working, and as I adjust the rear temperature in "Auto" mode, the lights for the fan speed increase as expected, but their is no air. Front air is cold and blowing, and everything else seems to be fine.

I have checked fuses, and couldn't find any problems. I am assuming that my fan is simply dead; is there anything else I should check?

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm assuming that I am simply going to have to remove the rear passenger (right) trim to get to the rear air unit, and then remove and check the fan itself. Please let me know if anyone has experienced the same issue or has advice.

I have searched other threads and seen a few similar posts, but not a lot of info or conclusive diagnosis.

Thanks

What Julian said ^

Below is a crop from the FSM for the rear AC unit on a 2000 LX showing how to hook up the motor for proper polarity.

1. INSPECT BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1 and the negative (−) lead to terminal 2, then check that the motor rotates smoothly. If operation is not as specified, replace the blower motor. If operation is as specified, check wire harness.

I have an 06 with he same problem. Ended up being the resistor. You will have to take off the plastic moulding, then if you can, apply ground to where the resistor normally would provide ground. If I recall correctly it controls the fan on the ground side. I have a power probe I used to troubleshoot it. Also, I noticed the only part available on rockauto from the aftermarket pertaining to the rear ac was the exact part I ended up needing....I was going to just put that part j
jnjn the beginning but then I talked myself out of it and doing it the right way....

I took the plastic molding off to get to the rear AC. I got to the box that contains the rear ac, but couldn't figure out how to get it out from there, and I couldn't see the fan motor (assume it is inside the box). Anyway, I whacked the ac box with my hand, and the fan started spinning and has worked flawlessly since. I can only assume that something was blocking it, or a loose/dirty connection, or contacts on the fan motor were dirty. Or the motor could be failing and will give me problems in the near future. Regardless, it is working for now.

So occasionally my rear A/C will work but I’m not sure if it’s a fuse issue or motor issue

I have a similar issue. The rear heater (under the drivers seat) works fine. The rear air does not work. I pulled the rear panel on the passengers side to get to the blower, but I could not figure out how to remove the unit to check the fan inside of the plastic housing. I think that you have to remove most of the body panels around the rear doors and roof to get it out, but I was not sure. Anyone have any suggestions or ways to diagnose this issue?

Ronel2020, I couldn't figure out how to remove the blower motor and squirrel cage fan out of the plastic box either. But was able to move it around a little and freed it up and it started spinning and has been working fine ever since. I suspect my problem was that the blower fan/motor was dirty and got "stuck" from lack of use (or it could have been a connector).

Sorry I can't be more help, but my suggestion is to try to get to the blower fan, re-seat any connectors, and see if you can get it spinning, even if you can't completely remove it. Maybe someone else will have more info on an easy way to remove the blower motor from the plastic housing.

Good luck.

Bringing this back from the dead. I've tested my relay and I've got 12v coming in from the white wire but nothing going out the blue. I'm assuming I need to replace the relay which has a part number of 058700-4000 on the rubber cover and was manufactured by denso. Once the rubber cover is removed the part on the actual relay is 056800-3040. I can't find either parts anywhere online. Any suggestions or places to look? Will the relays labeled as replacing the front also fit the back?

I never did fix mine. I sold that 470 a few years ago. Good luck chasing it down.
