Hey Everyone - I have a 03 w/ 95k and I'm in Northern NJ. During late winter we got one of those days where the temp got up to almost 70 degrees and I turned on the a/c (I had gotten the truck in November and never checked it out) only to find it was blowing regular air. I took it for an oil change and had my mechanic charge the system and all the freon came out. He found the leak was coming from the rear a/c pipe, past the connector that's sort of located towards the front passenger tire (guys, forgive me but i'm in no way mechanically inclined).

My question is, for now, I'd rather just "plug' the line rather than replace it at this point (I just have to many expenses going on right now). I found the following

StreetRodGuys - Rear Air Conditioning Block Kits - Lexus LX Series Rear AC Block Kit

I also saw the Airsept plugs

My question is - if I plug the rear a/c line, am I damaging or potentially damaging the a/c system? Although I'm not mechanically inclined, I figured I can unscrew the line from the connector and screw in the cap.

Thanks to all who answer!

I know it sounds crazy but I will definitely be replacing in the future but for now, just to get the system going, I'd rather cap it off so that I can at least get the a/c going. Right now, I really never have anyone in the rear so the front blowin cold air will be just fine. I just want to know if I'll be doing damage to anything.

thanks

I had a similar issue a few years back. Unfortunately I can't exactly recall all the details but I will try.

I took it to an a/c expert I know. The a/c lines are rigid lines, mine was leaking too and he claimed that replacing the line was a nightmare because it was rigid. You can't just easily thread it through all the chassis parts and hook it up, lots of labor parts and I think the parts were expensive too (here in NL). He ended up fixing it cheaply using some sort of flexible line. It worked perfectly for years, some sort of high-pressure line like brake lines or hydraulics (i have no idea what it was). The other benefit if I recall was that it was "better" than original, he pointed out that the rigid lines can take a beating against the chassis over the years and end up leaking. I was recently under my (newer) 100 to work on the AHC and noticed the same design which immediatley rang alarm bells in my head.

Hope this helps or points you in some direction.

I had the rear ac line replaced on my 04 lc. I think it was under $400 for the job. That was with pre bent oem line. They didn't have much concern or issue with routing the new line. However they were concerned with unscrewing the line from the rear evaporator. Said that was also corroded and could lead to big bucks. Luckily they got the line off and it's held a charge for about a year.

Hey everyone - I just wanted to update you that I had the line replaced w/ the oem line. Job cost me $350. I can't provide many details since my father picked up the truck for me but he did mention the tech said he had a bitch of a time snaking the pre-bent line to the back. System's all charged up and ready to go.

Right now, the weather in NJ has been in the sixties so no need for a/c but I'll let you know how she's working out when we hit the eighties! Thanks to all who helped me in this endeavor.
