the first seal you put back on when you start to reassemble the birfs, the big felt one on the back side of the nuckle.

How do I get the felt seal on? Do I soak it or something else? I haven't been able to stretch it on.

Will there be any simular problems with the rubber seal that comes next or will it be fine and stretch enough to put it on.
Thanks
Steven

I had my complete knuckle assembly off so it slip right on. How did you get the old one off? Did you cut it?

No I did not cut it, everthing is apart and cleaned. I need to know how to get the felt seal to the back side of the bell shaped opening on the end of the axel.

The hole in the felt seal seems to small to fit over the bell shaped part of the axel.

Well if you didn't cut it you must of stretched the old one over? I would stretch the new one over unless you think you are going to rip it?

When I changed it on my 60 it was tight but slide over.

Goodluck..

dont try to get it on straight from the face of the housing, instead hook one side of the felt on the front or back of the ball of the housing and then work it all the way on, that way you are makign an oval out of a circle it will have a larger opening

it will be tight but you should not have to strech it

I did the same thing that Raven did and it worked out in the end.........

Yep, key is to put one side on the backside of the knuckle and then work the remaining side on, it is TIGHT, but it works.

Thanks everybody
I am confused though, I deleated this thread after i got the first felt seal on.

Robbie even though I never found Your mention of the "Robbie Pipe Trick", so many others mentioned it and it worked good.
There was mention of anther "Robbie Trick" though I have not ran across that one yet. Anybody know the other trick?

Now I am trying to put on the second retaining ring on the long side Birf with out a vise, use the right tools is the only thing I can add to Birf threads.

To all that have contributed to Birf threads, Thank you, I wonder how many people you really do end up helping. :flipoff2:

How come my Duu question was reserected?

Hmm.. all I can think of is bubbles in the overflow tank, and grabbing the fan to check the fan clutch, but neither one of those would help you on the birf job.

If you're taking the birfs apart, just make sure to put cage back together right. I think Raven had a write-up on that a while back.
