I have a 95' FJ80

My brakes where working just fine, then suddenly, things got weird.
The pedal got very hard to push. ad the brakes didnt work well. If i let the pedal out for a second or two, it would go back to normal. Then, if I held the pedal down, for like a stop light, the pedal would get hard to push again.

It started yesterday, today its worse.

I took off the wheels to see if i could see anything wrong with the calipers, but did not see anyting unsual.

Anybody have experience with this?

Sounds like your booster is going bad if it is very hard to push the pedal down.

Check for vacuum leaks at the line going to the booster.

Absolute Wits End brake hose and check valve kit.

My brakes have been super light to the touch, since purchase. Then the pedal began to sink to a firm spot while sitting at stop lights. Then I noticed my engine rpm's would rise by 150 or so when I applied the brakes while the truck was in park. Releasing the pedal, the rpm's would drop back down.

I found the kit online first, then checked my hose that the kit replaced. It was dry-rotted, cracked, rock-hard, and spun freely on the ports it was connected to. I went with the kit.

15 minutes and half a glass of refreshing beverage and it was done. No further issues.

This isn't to say your booster isn't going out as well or instead. Just suggesting an easier and faster thing to R&R. You'll replace this anyway should your booster be the problem, so...

I had a similar issue recently with my brakes. They would be soft, softer than normal and then the 3rd consecutive press of the pedal it was rock hard like what you are referring to.

Recently I replaced the booster and master and bled the brakes 3 times to assure I was getting clean fluid. Replacing the booster and master mad a difference.

At the same time, I deleted the ABS pump and the LSPV in the rear. The reason behind this was ease of future bleeding of the system. There are several articles regarding how hard it is to bleed with the ABS pump.
