I am getting ready to go on a several thousand mile trip (leaving early in the morning) and made the mistake of spraying belt dressing on my serpentine drive belt. Now it is making a chirping noise, and I am trying to decide what to do. Time is of the essence, I am running low on that before I leave.

I have tried to clean it with breaklean... but it is still making noise. Should I do more of this? It gets quiet after I spray it but the noise returns next cold start.

The belt wasn't making noise before this all started, but I thought belt dressing was good. dummy.

I have parts assembled for the timing belt job, but don't have time to do that before I leave.

I have a new drive belt, can it be easily replaced? Most of the writeups I have seen talk about unbolting things to do this job... can't I simply release tension (wrench on the left hand thread tensioner) and slip the old off/new on?

Thanks in advance guys!

Long story short, yes. The hundy's serp belt is very simple to change. I did mine while doing my timing belt so it was especially easy. It looks like once you get the belt around the fan, you're home free. You could go as far as removing the skid plate and air intake for better access, but one or both may not be necessary depending on your patience and skill level. I would clean that 1950s belt crap off of all of your pulleys while you're in there.

ready to roll

I changed the belt, cleaned the throttle body and tha MAF sensor, replaced the air cleaner. I also checked a spark plug and it looked fine, so I think I am good to go. New belt is quiet, and the idler/tensioner felt good to me.

Key West here I come!

Thanks again.

Wow impressive. Have a safe trip.

spare

yea, the old belt is already packed away. I disconnected the positive battery cable while I was doing this, assuming that this would force the computer to recalibrate after cleaning the throttle body. Good assumption?

thanks again.
