I'm no pro compared to others here, but I've experienced a little grinding noise if the T case does not fully engage in and out of 2wd, 4h and 4 l.

I've learned to really make sure t case is "all the way over" meaning not in between or almost engaged before putting the truck in motion.

Not sure if that makes technical sense or even applies to what happen, but thought it might be another idea for you to consider.

I can very confidently confirm that simply leaving hubs in locked position but t case in 2wd will not cause an issue because I just took off drive flanges that essentially are like having hubs locked all the time. Obviously not ideal, but I can't imagine it tearing up anything too bad.

Well, she was road tested today (saw another Landcruiser while we were out - posted it in the "spotted" section) Sounds good...

Until you hit 3rd gear and a high pitched whine comes from the drivetrain.(The huz says it sounds like a high speed crappy blender) Same location as the noise I had it towed for when I started this thread - but a lot LOUDER and higher toned. Damn near deafening. Once you hit speed for a shift to 3rd the noise starts - if you let off the accelerator, the noise stops.

Any ideas? Its definitely in 2Hi.

After a bit of mud research - this noise could be a bad idler gear..

By any chance did you notice if the transfercase was full when you changed the fluids?

It may have pumped the gear lube into the transmission, over filling it.

When you check the transmission level it comes out of the fill plug.

Common problem on many trucks, not just Land Cruisers.

When my idler gear went bad it made noise all of the time, it just got loud around 45 MPH.

Do you take off the PTO cover and look inside there?

You may be able to see damage.

Nah-didnt even mention it..kulangot gave some great advice today so I believe we are gonna give it a go ourselves...besides -what could go wrong? :o
