With a great big thanks to fj40frk (Phil) I am pretty much ready for a stab at emissions. I picked up his old Weber 32/36 that he pulled for his SBC conversion and bolted it on tonight. Fired right up.

Hopefully I will be registered by the weekend. I doubt that there is any hope of getting my 4 year expired plate 68 FJ40 back though!

Short Story

A couple of years ago I took my '71 FJ40 (since sold) in for emissions. Stock engine, stock carb. After passing the test with some very good numbers a young man came up and said that he was surprised the trucked passed so easily "since most old JEEPS have a hard time passing." I corrected him but was very happy I was driving an old FJ and not an old Jeep.

Good luck at emissions!

I had a similar experience the first time I took mine through emission down in Tucson. I pulled in and the kid working there tried to turn me away since I had the wrong paperwork with me. Obviously I was driving a jeep and my paperwork said Toyota. I tried to get him to open the hood and look at the vin plate, but he refused even that. Finally another kid there came over and explained things to my guy.

Got insured today and have running on a 3 days temporary tag. Didn't make it in time tonight to try emissions, and heading to Tucson tomorrow. Perhaps Saturday.
