Ok, so I have this winch sitting on my workbench.

Anyone have any thoughts on this winch on an 80? I know it will take some fab to make it fit, but a guy on mud put the same basic winch on his ARB bumper.

It's this version

Here's a comparison with it and an M8274. I'm wondering if it's like the old winches, where it's actually truly rated. Seems somewhat comparable to the 8274 rather than the speed. THoughts?

Model: Ramsey RE8000......................Model: Warn M8274
Gear reduction ratio: 360:1................Gear reduction ratio: 134:1
Motor: 4.8 hp, series wound...............Motor: 4.6 hp, series wound
Gear train: worm gear.......................Gear train: spur gear
Weight: 130 lb.................................Weight: 110 lb.

Line Pull....Line Speed.Current............Line Pull...Line Speed..Current
...(lb).......(ft/min).....(amps)................(lb).........(ft/min)...(amps)
===================================================
...0............20..........73.....................0..............73..........68
2000..........9..........155.................2000............22.........172
4000..........7.........215..................4000............12..........268
6000..........5.3........285................6000...........9.5..........360
8000.........4.3...........345..............8000.............6..........435

Make it fit as I already have the winch? Or sell it and try to find something else. Money is a big concern as I basically would have to find something for what I sell this for. Which doesn't leave a lot.

I had an older REP8000 on my 80 and it worked just fine. Slow, but I really didn't care, as long as I was becoming unstuck...

If you plan to sit at the top of a hill and winch all day long....I'd choose a different winch, but for occasional self recovery, it works great.

thanks, the REP8000 is the planetary style which is quite a bit different than the worm gear drive. I definitely don't plan on a ton of winching...I'm just wondering if it's enough for an 80 series. I'm guessing 1 to 3 times a year MAX winch usage.

Get a snatch block and some extra line, you will be just fine.

I have an 8K winch and it has done well.

thats what I'm thinking. It seems everyone wants you to have at least 12K for the I'd like a 12K but the finances AREN"T there :frown: I've heard these are stronger than most 8K, kinda like the 8274....just slower....by a lot LOL. :D It has 150' of line. but I agree with a snatchblock and more...it should pull like a mule...a slow slow mule :p

now to figure out the mounting :)

The worm and roller winch is very strong, stronger than most plannetary winches. Keep it!
