Yes folks, act now! Limited time offer!

Starting tomorrow, the Subgroup of the BLM's Desert Advisory Council that I sit on will be holding a series of 'taskgroup' meetings to take public input on specific routes of travel in the West Mojave that they would like to see re-openend.

Tomorrow's meeting will be held from 5-8pm at the Jawbone Station in Cantil. Sorry for the short notice. I have been busy behind the scenes trying to help organize the meeting.

There will be another meeting on Thursday the 24th in Ridgecrest, same time, tentatively scheduled to be held at the Kerr McGee center. There will be more meetings after that, but dates have not been set yet.

At these meetings, we will have maps of the eight travel management areas [TMAs] for the public to work with in helping identify locations of routes which may not be on current maps. If you have maps of your own that you would like to bring to help us identify where your routes of interest are, by all means bring them. If you have any kind of other documentation on the routes you would like to share, and can bring copies to leave with us, even better.

We are not making any promises that we can get every route we put on the map. But since the BLM has specifically charges us to give them with a range of alternatives, it certainly can't hurt to add more routes to the mix for at least one of those alternatives. Remember, environmental science has changed, so that it may now be possible to consider some kind of alternative 'minimization' strategy other than outright trail closure.

Of course, if you would prefer to just complain, you don't have to do anything. Right now the nine of us on the subgroup are having an interesting time by ourselves picking routes we'd like to see reopened, as there has been no other public input at our last two meetings.

I was going to try and coordinate getting some trail input from Cal4Wheel thru Harry Baker, but he stepped down from service three weeks ago, after 25 years of dedicated service to the sport. :frown:

If any MUDers attend, please take a minute to say hello. I'm the tall guy with the long grey beard!
