I need to re gear my FJ62.

I have heard good things about Bayshore? Is there anywhere else who can beat their work? I am considering 4.88 with Auburn L/S fron & rear.

What I need to know is i it would be better/cheaper if I dropped off the 3rds and let them get the parts necessary, or if I bought the gears, carriers and set up kit and dropped them all off.

I live in Susanville and can't seem to have time when they are open to contact them.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Get a hold of Kenny on Reno4x4.

Only other option I can think of around here is driveline gear and services and I have no idea if they're any good with Toy 3rds (though I don't know about bayshore either). I was in there friday and did see an older chevy 3rd (very similar to toy) fwiw...

You may do a search on reno4x4 at any rate.

Good luck!

Any idea if the new 4 Wheel partd do something like this?

Know of anyone who works for beer & pizza?

A bit more of a drive for you, but Dean down at Carson city driveline did mine for 500 a diff total. That included the gears and set up. I had the lockers. He installed em no charge.
Don't expect em done when he says they will be done though. He works on his OWN TIME!!

I actually have all the tools necessary to do it myself and have done it on Dana axles, never a Toy.

Would anyone have a bare 3rd I could buy or borrow, then I could to the gears myself and not be in a hurry. I would then do the front, then use the front to do the back and then have the rear to return.

You could always see what Jason at CruiserParts.net has (though he is in texas) as he usually has plenty of parts rigs laying around if you are looking to buy another third? That or there is always Toyota Auto Recyclers of Rancho Cordova (though they quoted me $325 for an FJ62 doorskin, not sure if that is a decent price or not).

I have a spare third you can use.

If you have done Dana thirds the LC thirds will be a piece of cake they use side adjusters instead of shims. The hardest part is adjusting the pinion pre-load. Call Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters about a crush sleeve eliminator, that should solve that issue.

If you go with a shop I would steer away from Reno Driveline Services they are proud of their work and the price shows it.

Bayshore does Toy axles all the time I walk by their shop on my breaks and a week doesn't go by with seeing a Toyota in one of the bays. So far I have no complaints with their work or service. If you do any kind of drive-line mods I strongly recommend them. I've never had them do gear work but I know a lot of people who have and swear by them.

As Chicago mentioned Dean does good work at reasonable prices but don't expect to get your stuff done when it is promised. Also bring cash, sometimes the final price exceeds the quote but offering cash has always solved that issue for me.

For any shop I would let them buy the bearings and seals. That way if there is a problem it's all on them. I'd get the gears and lockers myself, shop around for used if you can.

BTW offering to pay cash for a discount works with a lot of small service type businesses. ;)

I'll echo the praise for Bayshore. They are wheelers and Garrett (the main driveline guy) drives a mini truck. They just regeared a 4Runner for me and had it done quickly and correctly. I took the vehicle in as opposed to pulling the diffs (it is IFS) but the price is much less if you just bring them the third members.

I would be inclined to let them provide the parts for installation, or at the very least give them the chance to price match, they are very competitive. Can you tell I am a Bayshore fan???

Just curious, what size tires are you planning?

4.88 with 33's sucks in my FJ60. It's great on the trail but horrible on the highway.

Another positive experience for Bayshore. If you're going over the hill stay away from River City Diffs ...I'll NEVER get over that exacerbating experience.

Another vote for Bayshore.

Look on Reno4x4 and you will find nothing but positive comments for them and if you tell them you found them on Reno4x4, Kenny gives you a small discount. The best thing is that they are wheelers and understand the importance of properly set up gears and if a part needs changed they will and if it doesn't, they won't, just to upsell it.

I have a 62 and am currently running 31's with 4.10 and it seems very underpowered the way it currently sits. So I wanted to run 33's with 4.88. I have also been considering Just Differentials in Washington. Their prices seem reasonable. Running about $1250 per axle with a locker or limited slip.

I have had good customer service from Just Differentials as well, but by the time you add shipping I think that Bayshore will likely be cost competitive and quicker. Either would be good options.

If you have done a Dana toyota's are easy, similar to a ford 9" in setup, I vote do it your self, more $$ to spend on the cruiser.. Bayshore does good work, their gear guy loaned me some shims for doing my dana 80, Note to self pay bayshore next time instead of doing a dana 80 on my back.. in the shop..
