After destroying one of the factory rear side window lock strips. I discovered like most things on our aging trucks that "new" lock strips are NLA or cost prohibitive (and only part of what you need). So began a great internet search for alternatives. There are some great threads on MUD about replacing lock strip with aftermarket black window welt. But I wanted the full glory 1980's bling.

Here is what I came up with.

Precision WLS 848/853 SP - from a 70's GMC/Chevy C/10 pickup.

I ordered the lock strip from JC Whitney and used a total of three 16' kits. One for the front, one for the rear, and one will do both side windows if you are careful.

Here are a couple links to people putting in and selling the black window welt. Same process as chrome.

Cool stuff. I like the chrome.

I was washing my windows today lamenting over the missing chrome along the rain gutter. Good to know I have an option! Thanks!

If I had a dog, he or she would be riding up front! The sliders are really nice, though. How did you go about getting them?
At 70lbs he does not sit on laps very well and no one else in the family wants to give up their spot for the dog. He like his space to sprawl out and sleep too.

Slider windows are the aftermarket one from Specter Off-road (SOR)

Thanks! I have the black welt looking to go in, but really like the chrome. I am going to look at this when I pull my windows to fix some rust before paint this winter.

Hi, Do you see any differences between the Toyota and gmc chrome ? Mike

FYI if you ever need to take out the windows leave the trim in the rubber. They come out perfectly and go back in without removing the chrome trim.

Back at adding more of the "chrome" pieces to the truck. This has two purposes, 1-I like the look of the strip on the rocker panel and
2- I needed something to cover the holes for the clips on the rocker. It is similar to the window welt in that it is EPDM rubber with a mylar wrap on it. But this has 3M double sided tape on the back.

Technically it is fender trim 5/8" wide with a trapezoid shape.

Best thing I found to cut it was a pair of garden pruners

Not as thick as OEM. I like that it is low profile while still having some shape to it.

This rabbit hole adventure started with those sliding windows. Dog needed his own window
Are there any issues with these aftermarket rear cargo window sliders? Leaks being a potential problem.

I have not noticed any leaks. Unlike the Toyota Aussie sliders these are flat and have no curve. You have to straighten the pinch weld for them to fit. They are made by CR Lawrence.

Anyone know where to get the rain gutter chrome trim?
