Good Morning,

I will be getting married soon, and my fiance is in love with the RAV4. I tried to get her interested in a 4Runner, FJC, or Land Cruiser, but she is in love with the RAV4.

What kind of aftermarket support is there for these things, is the 4WD, really a 4WD, or is it like an AWD system?

Any information will be helpful. Are there any tips for what years are better than others?

Thanks,

Mark

It's AWD.
it's a unibody wannabe SUV.
first gen is garbage. (too small, underpowered, etc)
after that.. they're... OK.
I don't see the use, myself.
Good for women and yuppies to go skiing in less than perfect weather.
It's big sister the highlander at least has a bit more room.

definately awd.
if it's fwd only, why not get a station wagon or minivan.....

The Rav4 is a nice car, 2WD or AWD, still nice car. But it's a car, not an SUV, and that is perfectly fine. Specially in SoFla. Why do you need AWD in Pompano anyways? I can understand needing the ground clearance for the occasional flood you get during rain season, in that case, the 2WD will do just fine.

Will you pay for it? Let her get the 2WD and save the extra money and take her on a longer honeymoon or better yet, save for a second honey moon on your first anniversary :D

my 2 cents

They are built on the Corolla platform, which means they are drop-dead reliable. Way more reliable than your truck will ever be. They are NOT meant as an off-road vehicle, however. The only reason to have an AWD version would be for snow traction, which doesn't look like is an issue here given your location. Get a FWD version, save the gas.

Sometimes people buy vehicles based on how they look and feel. There's nothing about the RAV4 that should scare you away, as long as you keep in mind it's not a truck.

Just FYI,

Rav4 Ground Clearance = 7.5"

Subaru Forester's = 8.9"
