I started noticing a clicking noise each time going over a bump or something more abrupt coming from the rear trunk door. Does anyone know or what part the rear lift door mostly likely become loose over time? I've tried to line the trunk door seams with weatherstrips to hopefully pad any potential areas causing such to no avail. There's no noise when traveling on regular roads other then when it becomes bumpy. Two gas tubes that push up the trunk door were placed and working properly.

I just today tracked this down on mine, after a lot of trial and error. Initially I pulled the carpet off the bottom and found the stock panel dampening material had released. On replacing that with what I had around, I must have pressed hard enough that the support between the inner and outer shell released from the panel adhesive. Mine is a ‘98 so it was way in there and a pain to access - I ended up running gasket seal into the space I could make, and the noise is now gone.

The carpet panel pulls off easily. Take it off and bang on the tailgate to see if you can replicate what you are hearing, and take it from there.

Actually I thought it was that plastic flap that bridges over the bottom trunk lid when the upper piece with the glass is opened (mine is 2005), it could very well be from that because the noise is very distinct from plastic piece hitting something, not the typical rattling noise. I will check it out tomorrow.
