Well I am not a big time road biker but I figure some folks around here are...so...

Disabled Explorers has been ask to help support some amputee bicycle riders in an event called RAGBRAI:
RAGBRAI
RAGBRAI®, The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. Heading into its 38th year, RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest bicycle touring event in the world. RAGBRAI is sponsored by The Des Moines Register.

Paradox Sports
Paradox Sports which is a way cool non-profit in Colorado that helps amputees with climbing and other human powered outdoors stuff is sponsoring a few riders. However they need to camp each of the nights in this week long event plus need some support along the way...that is where Disabled Explorers comes in.

A fellow ICU RN I work with ask me about the event and if I could use the WAVE (Wheelchair Accessible Van for Expeditions) to help out. It sounds interesting and I am 90% sure we can make it happen.

While there won't be any offroad wheeling on this outing there will be a number of disabled folks who are outdoors types and it would be great to reach them, plus all the able bodied riders who know someone that is disabled.

So if any of you know the event or live in Omaha or along the route in Iowa please chime in. As an all volunteer run & donation supported non-profit it will take some work to make this happen, but it sounds like a great way to support some disabled guys. The event is July 25-31 so I figure hot, humid, buggy and really fun (I hope).

I am looking for a bunch of you guys to bring your rigs...I am looking for anyone who knows anything about the event, what I need to have on hand to support road bikes (including possible injuries) or Iowa in general to offer thoughts :)

All thoughts welcome!

I'm in Iowa and will be doing Ragbrai. Your not going to have to worry much when it comes to hospitality on Ragbrai. The small towns that are pass through's during the day,and overnight towns go all out to make any and all feel welcome. There are usually bike repair shops set-up along the route each day and in overnight towns. Finding a place to sleep or camp each not will not be a problem.

This is a pretty cool thing to be be doing I'll PM my contact info. Feel free to get back to me with any more information you may need, or if I can help out in anyway.
