Radiator Stop Leak Soln

Looking to read on opinions on this subject - Short term soln and long term problem.

Primarily for a pin hole leak. Looking at Preston brand or similar products.

Sop leaks scare me. They have to do some plugging of the block.

I would pull the raidator and have it fixed right..

I once helped a friend try to figure out why his new to him FJ40 was over heating. The old rad was shot so we tried a new radiator and pressure testing the system with no leaks what so ever so we did the most obviouse thing - we pulled the thermostat. It was nearly clogged with stop leak that the PO had put in there. Pulled the thermo out, cleaned it off, flushed the system a few times and it never over heated again. It was amazing how well it clogged up everything. FYI - I even though it did not leak fluid, his heater never really worked so well afterwards, I be it was clogged as well.

After seeing that, I'd only use stop leak as a last resort to get out of the woods or through the desert and never as a repair.

The only automotive snake oil treatment that I've had seen work is Lucas gear oil additive. It made my transefercase MUCH quieter.
