Ok, I did the search thing, and checked the FAQ...

I have a '91 4Runner with the 3.0 and a R150F five speed transmission and 183,000 miles.

The problem is that the transmission pops out of 1st gear. I am not real familiar with manual transmission diagnosis, could this indicate an input bearing issue or am I looking at something a little deeper?

Anyone have a 5 sp. for sale? lol

Shots in the dark..

Detent ball springs tired? These are whats under some of those allen head caps in the middle of the transmission. The springs put tension on a little ball that sits in a depression on the shift fork to kind of hold it in place. They dont usually go bad in the transmission though.

Could be a bearing on one of the main shafts is going bad? When pressure is applied to the trans via the engine accelerating, the shaft moves enough to pop the shift fork into neutral? Drain the oil and look for metal bits. The R150 has a magnet in the bottom of it though so the metal might not come out in the oil. The only real way to find out is to open it up. The cases come apart fairly easy to inspect the insides. If a bearing does need replacing, it'll require tools, press, and know how :D

I picked up another transmission last week, I hope to find the time to swap it out and dig into the old one. I will try to remember and post what I find:eek:
