Nope. Can't get R-12 anymore. It's all R-134 now. Only places i've heard of even remotely being able to find R12 is Mexico and possibly some parts of Canada.

You have to convert now and yep, won't blow nearly as cold.

I call 100% BS on that comment!

Call around! I had my 60 redone just before i sold it last year! It was more expensive but they had tons of it!

Reason I ask is because I saw on the Urban Land Cruiser's website that David always uses R12.

I've called a few places and none of the local shops will do it... so still searching.

You WILL have better luck doing it in person! They arent going to tell you over the phone that they have R12 still!

Many shops have TONS of it left over because they make more $ doing the "Conversions"

They're not supposed to sell it to you Kevin. It's Illegal. I'm sure if i wanted crack cocaine bad enough , i could fine someone to sell it to me.

Just like when you do your own work. If you don't use the proper machines and someone see's you letting freon into thin air in your driveway you can get popped for that too. Do people get caught? Naaah.. but im just stating the facts bro.

There's always exception to the rules dude.

Your Point? I called BS on something that aint true, plain and simple!

Only places i've heard of even remotely being able to find R12 is Mexico and possibly some parts of Canada..

I am stating that several place in SD have it and will charge it, plain and simple!

I (as well as several of my friends) have found SEVERAL local shops that still charge R12 systems if you ask nicely!

Your statement that said it CANT be done and no one will DO it, is false! Get over it! :flipoff2:

End of story, have a nice day! :D

I didn't say it CANT be done. I basically said its hard to find... "Only places i've heard of even remotely being able to find R12 is Mexico and possibly some parts of Canada" And since we live just about in Mexico so it doesn't surprise me.:flipoff2:

R12 fawks up the ozone layer. Just get 134 and call it a day.

RANT[off]

Actually, you can sell all the R-12 you want, just don't make any, or, attempt to import any to the good ole USA:frown:

Thats what i thought. If i am not mistaken, the dude that did ours told us it was perfectly legal to sell off the remaining R12 that they had in stock, but once its gone they cant get no more. I remember him saying that he had a few years worth! :D

The exception to the rule is spreading wrong intel!
Dude, where did you get this (mis)information? R-12 isn't illegal to sell. The manufacturing and importation of it into the US for sale and use is. We can use up the remaining stock.
Production of R12 or CFC-12 was halted by the clean air act on January 1, 1996. Today the remaining supplies are product which has been recovered and reclaimed back to a chemically pure state in accordance with ARI-700 standards. The ARI standard is basically a virgin specification. The supply of virgin product is limited as most of the virgin was depleted in the first and second years after production ceased.
PRODUCTION CEASED IN 1995
There are tons of R-12 containers around in basements, warehouses, and a variety of garages to be had. It is everywhere. Just need to look!
