OP, it's great to read you are getting another companion. Having been through this, it does help.
We were fortunate enough to be able to adopt another rescue dog in anticipation of our aged dogs' passing. Our new dog was a real help to us.

X3 Sorry to hear about your loss. We lost our GR, Ruby, in Jan of 2010 to lung cancer. Didn't think I would ever get another dog. Ruby grew up with our kids and was pretty special. But by May, we all were really missing having a dog. As luck would have it we ended up adopting two GR (not planned). Still miss Ruby a lot but it is good to have Charlie and Kita in the family despite the havoc two GR can cause.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone ... I does get easier, but I still miss the big lug: Every time I look at his bed or come home from work. He was a great friend and like all good friends, knew how to make me laugh.
