Sorry, can't answer #1
#2 -> I believe all came with a center differential lock, but locking rear/front were an option, and only around 7% of the US models came with that option.

Did you take a look at the FAQ's in the 80's sections? Also, you might get a quicker response in the 80's forum on the first, if it isn't in one of the FAQ's.

Not sure if i looked in the 80 forum or not, been smashing my head against the wall all day on it!
Thanks for the reply Ron

#1: "It was actually may 1993. The last frame number to have R12 is JT3DJ81xxxxx38946. '38947 is the first frame with R134." -Cruiserdan-

#2. F&R locking diffs were not standard on any US production 80-Series. Not the 40th, not the CE, not the LX450s. None.

Don't be sorry

Thanks Mike!
Sorry to clutter up the board with noob questions!

We all have to start somewhere! Tricks of the trade can take years to learn. Some less than others, but still a start!

Daisy,

Simply show up to one of our meetings with a notebook, pencil and a digital camera.

That's all you need for the initial brain washing into into the cult.

Hijack

Speaking of brainwashing, it's coming along pretty well with my kids. My in-laws took the kids camping about a week ago. They have a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 90,000 miles with a 5.2L V8 and the "towing" package. They have towed a ~20' camp trailer with it since it was new. Well the transmission died while they were camping and some time during that day Colin asked my father-in-law why he drives a Jeep because Land Cruisers are so much better.

Good boy!

Nice!

Anybody wants to buy my Grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2? :D

Scrap steel is up to about $600 per ton...

:smokin:

The bill for the tranny repairs was $2,500. The market value for that vehicle can't be much more than that.

What's with the transmissions on Grand Cherokees? I drove a rental for a couple of days earlier this month. It was a new car (2007 or 2008) and quite fast for an SUV. Decent mileage at 20 mpg. Strong engine and average interior.

The tranny sucked though. Hard shifts on acceleration and when it would downshift at a stop light if would jerk violently. The thing only had about 20k miles on it and I was worried that it wouldn't make it through the weekend.

I couldn't complain at $27 for the day with free miles.

Had a buddy that had a Grand Cherokee, he had nothing but problems with it. Rebuilt the diff twice in 30k miles, had tranny issues and all sorts of other quality problems.
Just my 2 cents
Daisy

I don't know what's up with the GC trannies but we haven't had any issues. I wonder if the 5.2 eats up trannies, especially if used for towing? The tranny is for a 4.0L engine as far as I know and don't think it was upgraded in any way for the 5.2. That engine is a delight though.
