HI! Everyone .just looking for some info . i just picked up a used custom built
offroad trailer and it has a wierd to me reciver hook up .I was wondering if anybody new anything about it . the good ,the bad , it takes a 2 inch ball .
and the ball slides into the end of it and the bar flips over to hold it locked in the end of the hitch

any info would be greatly appreciated .

ive never seen something like that before. what does that pin do? looks like it just keeps the U-shaped arm locked in place? and how does the trailer secure itself on the ball? got more pics...underneath perhaps?

looks like an old-school horse trailer type hitch to me, top mount insteada closing from the side...

I rent construction equipment here in the Dallas area. I have pumps, light towers, compressors, boom lifts all kinds of equipment that is trailer mounted. I order new hitches and parts for hitches all of the time and I have NEVER seen anything like that.

Ive seen that kind of hitch before its just an old design. if it works then run it. if you think its unsafe replace it with a new one.

I once had an old boat trailer (made in the '50s) that had a coupler like that. It was hell for strong. I wouldn't replace it - just sand blast and refinish it.

I suspect they quit making them because they are heavy and it's a lot cheaper to use stamped sheet metal.
