Hi all,

I just picked up a rust bucket of an FJ40. It is going to need new quarter panels, all doors, runners and fenders. I'm going to be working through mechanical maintenance through the winter so that it starts and stops the way it should. Bodywork won't really happen until spring/summer 2012.

The rest isn't so bad, but there are some little patches bubbling up where the hood meets the windshield for example. I was thinking that if I can at least hit these small spots with some preventative sanding/primer, it could get me through the Chicago winter without it getting any worse. I'd hate to have to replace more body parts than I have to.

What is a quick step by step to hit these bubbles and seal them for a few months (6-8)? It will get exposed to rain, snow and...arrgghh....salt!

Personally I'd just find a good oil coating like rust check, krown or maybe fluid film...

Spray the s*** out of the spots and then do your rust work next year... Then with the time you saved you could spend time on a bad spot and get it ready for next year...

Also anti sieze is a great product to slow rust down to a crawl....

Really the enitre truck should be oil sprayed before the winter... It's really amazing how much oil spraying does prevent rust!
