I'm looking at buying a 2003 LC with 173k miles for $14k. I had it checked out by mechanic and it looks in great shape. The only question I had was I found out doing a service history check on Toyota that the engine was replaced at 135k miles. I called the dealer who did the repair and they said the notes show the reason for the engine being replaced was owner had jiffy lube do an oil change and they forget to put the oil drain plug in.

My question to y'all is whether this is good? It seems like it would be cause that means new timing belt along with new rings, pistons, rods, gaskets, etc. I am thinking right?

Is this a decent deal? The $14k is before taxes.

Thanks.

'03 with only 40k on the dealer installed motor? I'm no wrench but that sounds pretty good if the rest of it's in good shape.

Sounds alright to me. These engines are pretty trouble free, but having the tbelt and wp squared away for another 50k sounds good and everything else barely broken in as well. If all is well and it fits your budget and wishlist, go for it.

Thank you for the feedback. The only things wrong with it that I can find are 1) the telescoping steering mechanism doesn't work (tilt does) and 2) DVD player has the DVD stuck and won't eject.

There's write up on here for the telescoping motor fyi. I agree, I wouldn't be scared by a new, dealer installed motor.

$14k is a great price on that truck if it's in good shape.

It sounds like a score to me.
Lesson learned: Do not take any car or truck to Jiffy Lube.
The company I worked for take their fleet to Jiffy Lube and they had to replaced a lot of engines.

the telescope motor is probably gummed up or not working. It's a pretty easy fix since the tilt work, u can test out if its the motor because the two motor for the tilt and telescope are inter changeable. Good buy if everything checks out.

I got it last night. Thank you all of the feedback. I'm wondering if the telescoping mechanism can be manually moved and set? I will get this checked out. The battery is a coupler years old and looks a bit swollen - any way a bad battery could cause the telescope to not work?

My other mods I hope to do before I take this out Colorado in 2 months are:
1) iPhone aux/Bluetooth connection (need my music)'
2) Cargo bag/topper, and
3) maybe new stereo/speakers.

Also I noticed today that one of the front Ac vents does not turn and is stuck. I don't want to force and break it.

So if y'all have any advice or suggestions regarding any of the above, I would love to hear it.

And thanks again!
