In the classifieds section there's an expedition trailer for sale for 7500.00 without the tent, cooler, etc... After seeing the the simplicity, I just don't see the price. You could buy a whole pop-up camper for that price with a crapper and shower.

Why are these so expensive. Granted, I've never actually seen one up close, but am I missing something here. I've built 2 or 3 trailers and I'm not seeing anywhere near the thousands of dollars in value for one of these. What gives?

For 7500 I could build a handful of them. Should I build some and send them out west? I could even have some built. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but I'm simply not seeing it. A 10k cruiser with a nice rusta original patina I would can easily justify, but not this.

Because they are the newest "cool" thing to have..

And people tend to overvalue the things they have

There is a company called At or Adventure Trailers, they have set the bar for off road use trailers. They assemble their own units after a very prudent design and break concept, and then charge the customer as is always the case accordingly. If you have a source for manufacture post up one model you built and post it here these guys will critique it for you and give you an exact worthiness and you can go from there. These costs have stayed about the same for 3 years and with exception all pay the same price for stuff. Post em up.

I built my own trailer that I am very pleased with, it was a fun project, and my cash outlay was less than I would have spent at Adventure Trailers on a similar trailer. (ignores the value of my time)
Having said all that, building the trailer has made it very clear me that AT's pricing is very reasonable. I have had several people ask me to build them one (or sell them mine) and I just refer them to AT as I would have to charge more than AT to make it worth my time.
