ok so i have looked at several pics and on the winch ARB for the 80 they have that piece that is welded on what stickis out quite far right above the winch hole. now i havnt run a winch yet so maybe this is why im asking but is there any real use for this? it seems like its a PITA whats the point? could i hack it off to have less junk to bend? im contemplating modding my ARB with a few tricks up my sleave and while im doing it why not chop it off?

thanks mike

I beleive you are refering to the fairlead support. You take a pair of hardened bolts and pass them through that support down through the side rolllers of the fairlead. This way when you winch to one side it helps support that roller. With a winch installed it doesn't really stick out past the fairlead that much, only a couple of mm.

If you're worried about hitting it on something, you don't need to be too concerned. It doesn't really stick out very far.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if you do eventually get a winch AND use a synthetic rope line rather than the steel cable, AND you use a hawse fairlead you can hack/grind that thing off.

As already mentioned, it's there to support the rollers on the fairlead for steel winch lines.
