Been a while since I lived there. What do you need for a carbed 86 fj60 to get through inspection? Might be selling a nice 60 to a mass guy, but should de-smog it. Possible? thanks

AFAIK there is no sniff test after 15 years and it's only a safety inspection but the systems should be still there. But I haven't had a 15 year old car in a long time so I'm not 100% positive. The Mass guy should be able to walk into any inspection station and get that info in about 2 minutes.

Anything from 83 and up needs emissions. Visual inspections of the egr, cat, air pump, and other emission devices are needed to pass but most people look past that. Either way it runs on the dyno. Mass is coming up with a new program due out next October that will do away with all emissions testing for non OBDII vehicles.

thanks for the info.

I believe the amount of pollutant levels allowed are on a sliding scale for older cars. I could be imagining that though.

I could swear it's '85 and up, not '83 and up. My friend has an '84 Bronco and had it inspected a few years ago when it was on the road. It didn't get emission tested. That doesn't help you for '86, though.

As of now, an 86 will get a full sniff test and visual inspection. When I was living in mass, I went through hell trying to get my 86FJ60 to pass inspection...

I'm glad to hear mass is going to update the system, hopefully it won't be harsher on these older vehicles.

Alas, I'm in upstate NY now and we only have OBDII and up...so 1996 and older doesnt have any emissions testing...very nice...
