I have been looking at coming to the 100 series from an 80 and have found that the factors in buying/selling are a bit different.

Specifically, I am am seriously considering a '02 LC with 141k miles with all maintenance up to date for $14k. Everything is in great shape, one owner, recent timing belt, never offroad ,etc.

I've seen threads with people talking about how they picked up a 100 with <60k miles for $18k, but I've just not seen those for sale. Normally, I would never buy a vehicle over $10k with over 100k miles, but the availability of LC market seems to be getting a lot more sparse over the last few years.

So, hold out for a 100 series with fewer miles and cheaper price, or does this price/miles seem about right for the current market? I've instantly regretted selling my last LCs and have sworn to keep the next one til the LC or I die.

I think this thread will probably get moved as it's not really "tech", but pricing has too many factors. It depends on where you live too. Is that $14k price coming from a dealer? There's an added cost to that.

Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If it's the vehicle you want, at a price you're willing to pay, then it's the right price.

Good luck with your search. You'll find the vehicle that's right for you. That's all that matters. Try our classifieds right here on MUD!

Hello,
I would also consider looking at similar year LX's as it seems easier to find LX's at the price and mileage you posted for at or below $18,000. If the AHC does not float your boat you can get rid of it relatively easily.
Best,
Jack

Agreed, not tech, please move as needed. I've driven several LX's and they are just not my thing, so I'm pretty settled on the 100 LC, and this is the range I keep coming across. I check the classifieds section obsessively.

Whatever is clever. Good luck in your search. I have driven both 100 Series LC's and LX's and never have I found there to be a major difference with the exception of the 98-99 LC's which were the only 100 Series to offer Rear Lockers in the US.

Otherwise, the AHC was offered on many ROW 100 Series LC's (from 1998 forward) and the Japanese Land Cruiser Cygnus is close to identical to the LX.

The price seems to be in line with the market here. If the vehicle is clean inside and out, and no lingering maintenance issues, it might be worth $14k if you are willing to pay that much. When I purchased mine, it had several significant (and common) repairs/maintenance already done (starter, CV boots, timing belt, etc). So considering those things, I felt like I got a good deal.
