First, let me say how much I appreciate this forum along with all of ih8mud. I have a couple basic questions and have searched the forums to no avail so I hope I'm not being redundant.
I have owned an '03 100 for two years and love it. Due to a couple of upcoming additions to our family (twins), my wife will soon be taking the 100 for her daily driver and kid carrier. I have always loved the styling of the 80 and have started looking for one.
I don't have the time (and more importantly the skills) to work on an 80 and realize I will probably have to spend a couple bucks once I buy a rig with 100K+ miles. I hope to keep the 80 until I can give it to my kids in 16 years, so I am very interested in finding someone to help me keep it in top mechanical shape.
Can I trust that a local dealership (in my case Toyota of Gastonia) has the knowledge to keep my 80 in good running shape and is aware of the common issues? They have done a good job with my 100, but that truck has 55K on it and is only 5 years old so I don't know how much that tells me about working on a truck that is 11-15 years old. I read the sticky about local shops but couldn't get a real sense if you guys use the dealerships for your 80's or not.
Any recommendations for a indy mechanic in the Charlotte/Gastonia area?
Lastly (and probably most importantly), any of you guys want to sell your well kept, low mileage 80??
Again, I appreciate the forums and I guess I just need a little reassurance that there are mechanics out there who can i.d. and fix issues that are prone to come up with an 80.
